"The Simple Life"

Living simply...intentionally

Ricky Skaggs Song:

"The Simple Life"

"The simple life is the life for me, a man and a wife and family and the Lord up above who knows I'm trying to live a simple life in difficult times.

I used to sit around fussing at the phone all day, worrying about the bills that I had to pay. Never again will I be that way, never again will I be that way.

For the simple life is the life for me, a man and a wife and family and the Lord up above who knows I'm trying to live a simple life in difficult times.

Now I work six days and rest but one for the old rat race ain't never been won. I sit back and I watch 'em run; I sit on back and I watch 'em run."

"A rich person is not one who has the most, but is one who needs the least."

"The Simple Life!"

Not merely a book, but a way of living!

This section is designed specifically around the book "The Simple Life" and is placed here to assist people in possibly re-thinking and/or re-gaining control of not only their finances...but their lives as well!?

While I do not claim to be an "expert" on the subject of Intentional Simplicity", nor do I have any special insight or magic formula for living a life of simplicity, I do have experience which has made the difference for us!

We made choices a long, long time ago which have helped us to form our debt-free lifestyle, and those choices are the reason that we share our story! We know what we have gained and we want to share it with everyone who will listen and hopefully be of some encouragement to many! I encourage you to keep checking back regularly for I will be posting new information, insights and thoughts!

May God Bless You!

Roger

"The Simple Life"

With keeping in step with the simple life mentality, the book is a loose-leafed, large print, VERY easy to read book which shares Roger's desire for others to enjoy living that simple life! Below is an exert from some of his writing:

"Most people long for such a sense of simplicity and tranquility, however much to their dismay, few ever find it. Each and every day millions of people longingly dream of a simpler, more relaxed, less pressured life that they may enjoy but it seems that those desires and wishes continue to fade farther from view with the passing of each and every day...eluding their grasp until those dreams and desires of a simpler life can no longer be seen...like the tail-lights of a fast moving car which passes in the night; tail lights fading from view until they are seen no more!

Many who long for the days where they could actually be living out scenes from the simpler times of shows like "Little House on the Prairie" or "The Walton's" seem to find themselves living out scenes from "Survivor" or "The Amazing Race"; always struggling to survive...(and hopefully win?); or always on the move to get to the next place...(and hopefully win?); either way, ultimately becoming so focused on "surviving" or "finishing" that they end up missing the beauty of life and the beauty which surrounds them.

There are waaaaaay too many folks who find themselves simply going in circles; like riding a merry-go-round at a county fair or a roller coaster at an amusement park...either going round and round in a circle or on a track that goes through the exact same motions...time after time after time after time...but never going anywhere...never getting anywhere. Although their efforts to make a living and get ahead are considered valiant and definitely noble in anyone's eyes, the dilemma is that while folks are busy making a living...few are actually making a "life". Caught up in the notion that life has to be about getting more, having bigger and better, larger advancements and gathering "stuff".

Unfortunately many people have traded "quality for quantity"...gaining more but having less.

There are ways to stop the merry-go-round or roller coaster ride, to get off and actually begin to enjoy a ride which will take you to places that one truly enjoys! It's called "getting back to the basics"; it's called "Intentional Simplicity"; it's called "enjoying life"...rather than "enduring life". It's called living "THE SIMPLE LIFE"!

I heard it said that there are 4 basic steps to change:
1. Information - Be informed of options and ideas to stimulate a change in thinking.
2. Application - Apply what is learned and experienced to help facilitate the change.
3. Dedication - Be determined to follow through with what one knows to be true.
4. Transformation - Enjoy the "fruit of your labor".

Our personal motto, theme, mantra (or whatever you wish to call it) has always been:

"Life shouldn't be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty, well-preserved body; BUT rather, to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly shouting, "WOW...WHAT A RIDE!! THANK YOU LORD!"

We have thoroughly enjoyed this simple life! It has been a great adventure and it's been a wonderful journey! We pray that you may have a wonderful journey on the road to simplicity as well!

Yours for a Simple Life,
Roger Cooper
